About the department
The endocrinology department has 50 inpatient beds.
The department provides highly qualified specialized care to patients with all endocrine pathologies (diabetes mellitus, thyroid diseases, diseases of the parathyroid glands, diseases of the adrenal glands, pituitary gland, rare endocrine pathologies).
The main objectives of the endocrinology service are the prevention and detection of endocrine diseases, the provision of qualified and specialized treatment, preventive and advisory care to patients with endocrine diseases, and increasing the level of knowledge of doctors and nurses in the field of endocrinology.
Range of diagnostic services
- determining the level of glycosylated hemoglobin and albuminuria in the urine in patients with diabetes mellitus to monitor the development of early complications and control the level of compensation of carbohydrate metabolism;
- determination of C-peptide, IRI to determine insulin resistance;
- conducting 24-hour glucose monitoring (CGMS) in real time;
- determination of hormones of the pituitary gland, thyroid gland, parathyroid glands, adrenal glands, gonads: cortisol, testosterone, progesterone, estradiol, follicle-stimulating hormone, prolactin, luteinizing hormone, thyroid-stimulating hormone, free T3, free T4, antibodies to TPO, parathyroid hormone, calcitonin, metanephrine, normetanephrine, aldosterone, anti-TSH antibodies
- performing a glucose tolerance test;
- biochemical blood test;
- kidney function testing;
- Ultrasound of the thyroid gland, parathyroid glands, abdominal organs, kidneys, echocardiography;
- Doppler ultrasound examination (USDG) of the vessels of the lower extremities, brachiocephalic vessels;
- scintigraphy of the thyroid gland, parathyroid glands;
- X-ray computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging of the internal secretion organs with bolus contrast;
- densitometry;
- consultations at the osteoporosis center, etc.;
Treatment. Carried out at the stationary stage
- individual selection and correction of the dose and regimen of insulin administration;
- diagnosis and treatment of complications of diabetes mellitus;
- training at the “School of Diabetes Mellitus”;
- pulse therapy for the treatment of endocrine ophthalmopathy;
- preparing patients with toxic goiter for surgical treatment of the thyroid gland;
- modern drug therapy;
- modern physiotherapeutic treatment.
Consultations with endocrinologists are carried out in the clinic department as prescribed by the attending physician and for a fee.
Consultative and diagnostic assistance to foreign citizens is provided on a paid basis.
Patients are accommodated in 6 local wards; the department also has a small ward with individual care without medical indications, and a ward for war veterans.

What do we treat
- diabetes mellitus: type 1 and 2, including with complications (diabetic polyneuropathy, leg angiopathy, nephropathy, retinopathy)
- thyroid diseases: toxic goiter, subacute thyroiditis;
- chronic autoimmune thyroiditis with dysfunction of the thyroid gland; hypothyroidism
- diseases of the parathyroid glands: hypoparathyroidism; hyperparathyroidism.
- diseases of the adrenal glands: chronic insufficiency of the adrenal cortex; hypercortisolism; hyperaldosteronism; pheochromocytoma.
- pituitary diseases: pituitary tumors; hypopituitarism.
Supervision of patients in the department is carried out jointly with employees of the Department of Endocrinology of BSMU
