STIs are a hidden threat

STIs are sexually transmitted infections.

There is an opinion that getting a sexually transmitted infection is a shame, but this shame can turn into a real tragedy for a person who needs the help of a qualified specialist.

STIs are not a shame, not a death sentence.

A large number of STIs may not manifest themselves, develop latently, gradually turning into a chronic form, which portends long and expensive treatment.

Regular visits to a gynecologist for women (once every six months) and a urologist for men, regardless of the presence of complaints, will help identify hidden forms of sexually transmitted diseases. At the Stolbtsovskaya Central District Hospital, including anonymously, you can get tested for hidden infections (ureoplasmosis, mycoplasmosis, chlamydia), which will help you start treatment in a timely manner, which will avoid unpleasant consequences.

The appearance of symptoms of the disease indicates that it is time to sound the alarm and contact a qualified doctor (gynecologist, urologist or venereologist).

Among the common signs of STIs, characteristic to varying degrees, are:

  • pain, burning, in the process of urine excretion;
  • uncharacteristic discharge from the genitals with an unusual smell, color, consistency, etc.;
  • slight increase in temperature, general malaise for several days;
  • unpleasant sensations in the groin area and genitals (rash, burning, redness, itching, swelling).

There are several simple rules and tips on how to reduce the risk and even avoid the risk of contracting sexually transmitted infections, which you need to think about BEFORE sexual intercourse:

  • Refrain from “casual” connections .
  • Use a condom . But remember that it is not 100% secure. By using it, you reduce, but do not eliminate the possibility of infection!
  • Be sure to follow the rules of personal hygiene in your intimate life. Demand the same from your partner.
  • Change your sexual behavior to safer ones. Limit the number of sexual partners. This advice applies to people of absolutely any sexual orientation. Fidelity is the most reliable protection against sexually transmitted infections.

The danger of contracting an STI lies in the consequences of the disease. For women, these consequences can be life-changing:

  • The development of inflammatory diseases of the genitourinary system, which can manifest as pain, significantly worsening the quality of life. The inflammatory process affects all organs of the female reproductive system;
  • A woman may experience adhesions in the pelvis, obstruction of the fallopian tubes, pathology of the cervix, inferiority of the endometrium of the uterus, etc. As a result, infertility, miscarriages, miscarriage, premature birth, and diseases of the newborn may develop.
  • Development of malignant neoplasms. Of particular danger in this regard are the genital herpes virus and the human papillomavirus (HPV);
  • Men may have impaired potency, unstable erection, and ejaculation disorders.

It is important not only to identify and treat the infection once, but also to be examined regularly.

I would also like to remind you that there is criminal liability for deliberately infecting a person or a group of people with STIs (HIV and other sexually transmitted diseases) (Article 157 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Belarus Infection with the human immunodeficiency virus, Article 158. Criminal Code of the Republic of Belarus Infection with a sexually transmitted disease).

By undergoing the examination on time, you will protect yourself and your loved ones from unwanted consequences!
