The 20th European Immunization Week in the Republic of Belarus. "Vaccination brings results – for every generation"

16.04.2026

From April 19 to April 25, the 20th anniversary European Immunization Week is being held in the countries of the European region of the World Health Organization, including the Republic of Belarus, under the motto "Vaccines bring results – for every generation."

Vaccines are one of the most powerful tools in public health. Over the past 50 years, they have saved more than 150 million lives worldwide. New vaccines against malaria, human papillomavirus infection, cholera, dengue fever, meningitis, respiratory syncytial infection, Ebola and monkeypox are saving even more lives at every stage of life.

Objectives of the European Immunization Week 2026:

to show the population how vaccines reliably protect generations from infectious diseases;

Provide healthcare professionals with the skills and tools to effectively dialogue with families about vaccines;

to present scientific data on the safety and effectiveness of vaccines;

❇️ Build trust through innovation and equal access to vaccination.

🧑🏼‍🔬 The implementation of long-term continuous vaccination in our republic within the framework of the National Preventive Vaccination Calendar ensured the maintenance of the polio-free country status (since 2002), the measles and rubella elimination status (since 2016), and the achievement of regional hepatitis B viral control goals (starting in 2023).

New items of the National Calendar of Preventive vaccinations have been successfully introduced in Belarus since 2025:

HPV vaccination for 11-year–old girls - more than 80% of the target population was vaccinated with the first dose;

expanded child populations for vaccination against pneumococcal infection – all children from the age of two months;

Booster vaccination against whooping cough has been introduced for children aged 6 years.

The list of preventive vaccinations for epidemic indications has been revised. And the work on improving the national calendar continues.

It is possible to preserve the achieved epidemiological well-being in relation to vaccine-controlled infections only with the active position of each of us. Universal access to high-quality and safe vaccines, knowledge of the possibilities of modern immunoprophylaxis and the importance of timely immunization of family members will ensure their own protection and protection of others from infectious diseases and will become an investment in the health and well-being of children and adults throughout their lives.
