Vaccine prevention, in its effectiveness in preserving the health of both an individual and the population of entire countries, is the most significant achievement of medicine in the entire history of its development. With the advent of vaccines, humanity for the first time has the opportunity to avoid mass death and disability from infections that have destroyed and crippled billions of human lives.

Today, with the help of vaccinations you can protect against many infectious diseases: measles, rubella, mumps, diphtheria, tetanus, whooping cough, chickenpox, viral hepatitis A and B, yellow fever, tick-borne encephalitis, tuberculosis, human papillomavirus infection, rabies, Haemophilus influenzae, pneumococcal infection, influenza, Covid-19 infection, etc.

In the Republic of Belarus, according to the National Calendar of Preventive Vaccinations, which is funded at the state level, vaccine prevention of 12 infectious diseases is carried out: tuberculosis, viral hepatitis B, diphtheria, tetanus, whooping cough, polio, Haemophilus influenzae and pneumococcal infections, measles, mumps, rubella, influenza. In addition, vaccinations are carried out according to epidemic indications against 18 infections (certain professional groups; persons living in areas with a high incidence of natural focal infections; contacts in foci of infections; when traveling to countries unfavorable for yellow fever, etc. .).

At the request of citizens, vaccination against infections not included in the National Preventive Vaccination Calendar can be carried out at their own expense in healthcare organizations, medical centers, etc.

In 2020 In Minsk, no cases of measles, rubella, polio (since 2002, the Republic of Belarus has been included in the list of polio-free countries), diphtheria, or tetanus were registered. A single imported case of mumps has been recorded.

In the near future, despite the development of healthcare systems, the emergence of new tools and methods of diagnosis, treatment and prevention, infectious diseases will continue to exist. The large-scale and rapid development of the COVID-19 pandemic has demonstrated the importance and indisputability of vaccination as the most effective way to prevent infectious diseases and one of the most significant achievements of mankind. Therefore, the creation and improvement of vaccines against infectious diseases is one of the main directions in the development of medicine.

Every person has the opportunity to protect themselves from vaccine-preventable diseases. Vaccination is an investment in health, quality of life and well-being throughout your life.
