FPB: IT HAS BEEN EVEN MORE EXPENSIVE TO GET YOUR CHILD TO SCHOOL IN 2021

10.08.2021

This is evidenced by the results of trade union monitoring of prices for the entire range of school goods, which took place throughout the country. Trade union specialists conducted a detailed analysis of each group of goods in the context of the needs of junior and senior classes. Monitoring took place in retail facilities of both state and private ownership. Attention was paid primarily to prices for products from domestic manufacturers.

Note that the cost of clothing, shoes, and office supplies in the regions of the country differ significantly.

For example, the most expensive school kit (clothes, shoes, stationery, diary, backpack, etc.) for younger boys in the Minsk region is significantly more than 760 rubles, for girls from the Brest region - almost 600 rubles. School fees will be cheaper, but no less expensive, for a family from the Grodno region: for a boy you will have to spend 563 rubles, for a girl – 465 rubles.

For parents of high school students, it will cost boys from the Minsk region the most to prepare for school - the amount of purchases will be more than 830 rubles; for girls from the Brest region, 972 rubles will be required. The cheapest place to equip boys is in the Gomel region - 716 rubles, girls in the Grodno region - 641 rubles.

“The results of our monitoring showed that today getting a child to school is a very expensive undertaking. Compared to last year, prices have increased by about 6, somewhere by 10%; in monetary terms, parents will have to spend 100, and in some places even more rubles,” said Vladimir Pozdnyakov, deputy chairman of the Federation of Trade Unions. – Trade unions are concerned about this situation on the school goods market. We are ready to support and provide the necessary assistance to employees. Let me remind you that in every trade union organization “mutual aid funds” have been created and continue to operate. Of these, support is provided to those who, for one reason or another, find themselves in a difficult situation. Be it the economic difficulties of the enterprise, or personal family difficulties. Every employee who is a member of a trade union can contact their trade union organization. And we can already see that there is a need to direct funds from these “cash funds” to help parents whose children go to school.”

By the way, the “Trade Unions for Children” campaign has been in effect since 2002. Trade union organizations provide assistance in preparing children for school. Particular attention is paid to children entering the first grade, orphans, large families, low-income and foster families, as well as families raising disabled children or who find themselves in difficult life situations. Sponsored children's social shelters, boarding schools, and family-type homes receive material and financial support.

The amount of material and financial support provided by trade union organizations at all levels is growing from year to year. Thus, in 2020, about 6 million rubles were allocated for these purposes.

Also, many collective agreements of enterprises contain norms for providing financial assistance to parents raising schoolchildren. Text material taken from the website of the Federation of Trade Unions of Belarus 1PROF.BY:
