Shilo: economic sanctions in the future may also hit healthcare
09.13.2021

September 13, Minsk / Corr. BELTA/. At this stage, the healthcare system has not felt the impact of European sanctions, since the state maintains serious control over the fulfillment of budget obligations, despite the emerging economic difficulties. The chairman of the Belarusian Trade Union of Health Workers, Vyacheslav Shilo, announced this to journalists today at the international conference “The Impact of Global Economic Challenges on Social and Labor Human Rights,” which is taking place in Minsk on September 13-14, BELTA reports.
“Healthcare is a budget sector. And the sustainability of this sector depends on how taxes are received into the budget. Therefore, the sanctions that are applied to our enterprises may have a negative impact on tax receipts and, accordingly, a reduction in funding. Fortunately, in our The country is doing everything to ensure that the volume of healthcare funding does not decrease. More than 4% of GDP goes to the healthcare system. And in the conditions of last year and this year, when in accordance with Decree No. 131 our doctors received additional payments, the costs of operating the system have increased significantly. Over 7 months, more than Br589 million was paid for additional payments to doctors. This also places a burden on the entire economic system and regional budgets. Therefore, international actions towards Belarus related to the imposition of sanctions are unacceptable. Not only our specialists will suffer, but also ordinary citizens.” , - Vyacheslav Shilo expressed his position.
He added that budget execution is proceeding according to plan, the situation with financing the healthcare system, and the implementation of state programs is constantly being analyzed.
The forum brought together an expert community - authoritative and iconic domestic and foreign specialists, experts in the field of international law, representatives of UN organizations and structures, judicial authorities, ambassadors of foreign countries, deputies, and public figures. Over the course of two days, they will discuss initiatives to maintain stability in the world and the fundamental rights of people. One of the central issues of the forum will be the illegality of the application of economic sanctions.
Based on the results of the conference, it is planned to develop a resolution that will be sent to the EU, ILO and UN.
