We invite you to cervical cancer screening

30.06.2023

In the 4th antenatal clinic of the health care institution “1st City Hospital”, cervical cancer screening is carried out.

Screening is an examination of formally healthy people of certain age groups who do not present any complaints in order to identify pathological changes that precede the development of cancer. This is an important preventive measure that allows you to timely prevent the development of invasive cervical cancer.

Women aged 30, 35, 40, 45, 50, 55 and 60 years old who do not have previously established gynecological or oncological diseases are subject to screening.

If you are registered at an address that belongs to the service area of the health care institution “13th City Clinic”, and you are 30, 35, 40, 45, 50, 55 or 60 full years old, you can contact your local obstetrician-gynecologist and take a test. cervical smear to check for human papillomavirus (HPV) (free).

Interpretation of HPV test results.

  1. If the HPV test is negative, this means that you are healthy and you will be recommended to come back for the test next time in 5 years. If the smear test is negative, the risk of developing cervical cancer within 5 years is extremely low.
  2. If the HPV test is positive, then you need to undergo additional examination: colposcopy with targeted biopsy. Depending on its results, this may be a simple observation (examination by a gynecologist) at an interval specified in each specific case, a repeat HPV test, or a more in-depth examination. In cases of severe cervical intraepithelial neoplasia, you may be offered removal of the lesion from the cervix. There is no need to be afraid of this, since this manipulation is easily tolerated, does not have significant consequences for women’s health and will prevent cervical cancer, the treatment of which is much more difficult and the treatment results of which are much worse.
